AboCoders
AboCoders is removing obstacles to a productive and prosperous life for young women from low income families in underserved communities in Nigeria.
Project Background
AboCoders is the flagship project of Aspilos Foundation, launched in October 2015. Developed under our Livelihoods thematic area, focused on economic empowerment. AboCoders also complements our work in Governance by promoting equality and active citizenship.
At the heart of AboCoders is a belief best captured by the words of former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon:

“Equality for women and girls is not only a basic human right, it is a social and economic imperative. Where women are educated and empowered, economies are more productive and strong. Where women are fully represented, societies are more peaceful and stable.”
AboCoders
AboCoders is creating a pathway for young women, particularly those in Northern Nigeria, to harness technology for personal and community growth. We are directly addressing these critical challenges:
- Limited access to income-generating opportunities for women, especially in Northern Nigeria.
- Low technology penetration in Northern Nigeria, making it harder for women to thrive.
- Underrepresentation of women in tech, with even lower rates in the north.
- Limited access to technology as a tool for education and career advancement.
- Lack of interest among young women in pursuing technology-related fields.
Through training, mentorship, and community building, AboCoders is not just teaching skills we, are opening doors, changing mindsets, and sparking a ripple effect of empowerment that transforms lives and communities.

What Happens after our Students Graduate?
Our students after graduation are inducted into the AboCoders community. This community offers a lifetime membership unless the student decides to cease to be a member. The objective of the community is to provide mentorship, continuous training opportunities, and work/internship opportunities for its members.
We also support our alumni with work/learning space in all our pysical centers (academies).
These alumni usually grow to become self-sufficient within a time frame of 3-6 months.
