At Aspilos, we believe that people will be poverty free if they have the skills, knowledge and opportunities that will generate income for them and that their income will be sustained if the society they live and work in is a well governed one that responds to the needs of its people. To have that sort of society, we must have good governance and leadership in play.
To this end, we work in two thematic areas:
In the area of livelihoods, we work with young women especially those that are from low income families and/or marginalised populations, implementing projects that ensure they have a secure and sustainable livelihood. We also carry out policy advocacy efforts to ensure that the laws of our country allow for relevant education. We identify with the Sustainable Development Goal 8 and Goal 9 and this is reflected in our livelihoods projects, an example being our AboCoders project.
In the area of governance our target group is young people in general and we are particular about:
- developing active citizens
- amplifying the voices of the citizenry
- having more young people in governance and/or politics
Our work here is in line with the Sustainable Development Goal 16.
