Technology has shaped the trajectory of a lot of economies in different parts of the world and can still do more. Most countries have used the emergence of technology to make lives better and easier for their inhabitants. But there are still significant problems that technology can solve if looked into by tech innovators.
In this article, I’ll highlight some major global problems that technology can solve or is already solving.
Let’s dive right in.
Here are some five major global problems and their tech solutions:
Unemployment: Unemployment is a global problem, not restricted to one country alone. Research has shown that billions of people are unemployed around the world. Even worse, in least developed and developing countries. Technology has created and is still creating more job opportunities remotely and otherwise. There are a lot of jobs that one can get online. Businesses can be promoted online, with good sales and profits made. There are social platforms that connect the unemployed with the employer like LinkedIn, Upwork, Fiverr and many others. These are online market places that can guarantee employment to whoever that has something to offer in different sectors of the economy.
Digital Divide: Yes, the digital revolution has connected billions of people to the internet and paved the way for easing and making lives better. However, many individuals in developing countries are far behind as high-speed broadband access is out of their reach. This digital divide is holding back the economic growth of poorer countries because they cannot take advantage of the opportunities in the global digital system. So, this problem can get solved by making sure that these countries have access to the digital innovations as they come, or even better, by making sure that these countries build the capacity to develop digital innovations that meet their needs.
Education Inequality: Education is one structure of every economy that needs to be placed as top priority. But, in most countries it’s trivialized. There are a lot of discrepancies in the needs of students. We should deploy new learning styles, as one person can differ from the other. In recent years, teachers have noticed that a greater percentage of students move toward personalized learning. Technology can actually help to speed up that. Personalized courses online will also go as far as helping disabled students who struggle in a classroom setting. Taking up this option will give everyone access to education and increase their performance from any part of the world.
Mental Disorder: Mental disorders like autism and schizophrenia can get treated if the brain gets decoded. Our brain remains the centre of our existence, everything we do as humans get coded in the billions of neurons in our heads. Cracking these codes could lead to a massive breakthrough on how to treat mental disorders; it may allow us to communicate directly from our brains to computers or even to other people.
Voting Difficulties: The voting process can sometimes be time consuming and very confusing if certain measures aren’t in place. In getting members to cast their votes, the key is to make it easier for everyone. By using custom QR codes, voters can simply scan the code on their election materials with their mobile phones in the comfort of their homes, log in and secure online ballots.
